The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public of a recent phone scam circulating in the area involving false claims related to the release of incarcerated individuals.
The Sheriff’s Office has received reports that residents are being contacted by individuals falsely claiming to represent a company that can secure the release of inmates from the Izard County Jail by placing an ankle monitor on them—for a fee. The caller instructs the victim to pay money in order to have the monitor installed and facilitate the inmate’s release.
This is a scam. The Izard County Sheriff’s Office has no affiliation with any company offering such services, and there is no legitimate program that requires or allows payment for an inmate’s release via ankle monitoring in this manner.
Sheriff Charley Melton urges the public not to share personal information or send money to anyone making such solicitations.
“If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately and report it,” Sheriff Melton said. “Our office does not conduct inmate releases through third-party monitoring companies or ask family members to pay outside fees for such services.”
Anyone who has received such a call or believes they may have been targeted by this scam is encouraged to contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Office at 870-368-4203.
We ask residents to remain vigilant and share this information to help protect others from falling victim.
