Gainesville man sentenced for manslaughter that happened in 1989

A man from Gainesville has been sentenced to prison in connection with the death of a woman in 1989. On June 30th, 1989, Kelli Ann Workman was reported missing from Church Cemetery at Dogwood Hill. Works was found murdered several days later in Christian County.  Monday, 36 years to the date of Workman’s disappearance, 64-year-old Leonard Dwight Banks of  Gainesville pleaded guilty via an Alford Plea to Voluntary Manslaughter in the Phelps County Circuit Court. The case was moved to Phelps County on a change of venue at the request of Leonard Banks.  Banks was sentenced to 15 years in the Department of Corrections, which is the maximum amount of time for the charge.
