Authorities have recovered the body of a man who went missing in the White River on July 4th near York Island in the Mel Rose community, located between Mountain View and Batesville. Independence County Sheriff’s confirmed the recovery took place on Saturday, just downstream from where the man had entered the water. The man was initially reported missing around 10 pm on July 4th after he entered the river with a group of people to reportedly shoot fireworks. Multiple agencies assisted in the recovery effort, including the Independence County Dive Team, the Stone County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and Licking Fire. The search had been concentrated between the York Island area and Lock Two on the White River. No further details about the man’s identity or the circumstances of the incident have been released at this time.
