The St. Louis Cardinals overcame two rain delays and an early 3-1 deficit to edge the Atlanta Braves 5-4 yesterday at Busch Stadium. Trailing after the first inning, the Cardinals seized momentum with a two-run single from Wilson Contreras and later added another two-run homer by Jose Fermin in the sixth that turned the tide. Pitchers Drew Graceffo, Wilson O’Brien, and closer Ryan Helsey combined on effective relief to secure the win. The win moved the Cardinals to a 51-46 record and gave them a morale-boosting finish as they head into the All-Star break. The Cardinals will return to action on Friday, July 18th, kicking off a three-game series in Arizona at Chase Field. Sonny Gray is scheduled to start for St. Louis.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Nick Loftin delivered his second game-winning hit in less than a week, driving in Tyler Tolbert from second base with a single in the ninth inning to give the Kansas City Royals a 3-2 win over the New York Mets on Sunday. Noah Cameron delivered another brilliant start for Kansas City, scattering seven hits while matching a career best with eight strikeouts over 6 2/3 scoreless innings. And the rookie left-hander was in line for his fourth win when John Schreiber and Lucas Erceg shepherded a 2-0 lead. Due to the All-Star break this week, the Royals will resume play Friday in Miami against the Marlins, where Noah Cameron will get the start.
