On Sunday, Shane Van Gisbergen continued his impressive rise in the NASCAR Cup Series with a commanding victory at the Toyota/Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. The New Zealander led 97 of 110 laps, fending off late pressure from Chase Briscoe and Chase Elliott to take the checkered flag. With this win, Van Gisbergen becomes the fastest driver to reach four career Cup Series victories since Parnelli Jones in 1967. He also became the first driver since Jeff Gordon to win three road-course races from the pole in a single season. Briscoe finished second, Elliott third, followed by Michael McDowell and Christopher Bell to round out the top five. Van Gisbergen is now tied for the most wins this season alongside Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, and Bell. The NASCAR Cup Series returns to action this Sunday at Dover Motor Speedway.
