After falling behind early, the Cardinals responded with a 6-run second inning highlighted by three-run homers from Wilson Contreras and Brendan Donovan. The back-to-back blast gave St. Louis a lead they would never lose, despite a late push from San Diego. Cardinals starter Sonny Gray improved to 10 and 4 on the season, going five innings and limiting the Padres to three earned runs. The Cardinals will meet with the Padres again tonight for game 2 of a 4-game series at Busch Stadium, righty Miles Mikolas will get the start.
