As Labor Day weekend nears, Mothers Against Drunk Driving Missouri is partnering with law enforcement for “Saturation Saturday.” The statewide initiative will increase impaired driving enforcement during one of the year’s busiest travel periods, working alongside the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. NHTSA reports that 511 people died in drunk driving crashes nationwide during the Labor Day weekend in 2023. In Missouri, drunk driving deaths have risen by 20 percent since 2019. Officials say Saturation Saturday is aimed at reversing that trend. The effort will include checkpoints and patrols across more than 100 departments, with MADD staff and volunteers joining officers to spread the message: “If you drink, don’t drive.” During last year’s holiday weekend, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported seven traffic deaths and more than 100 DWI arrests.
