
ST. LOUIS, MO – The St. Louis Cardinals dropped their series opener last night, falling 8-2 to the San Francisco Giants at Busch Stadium. San Francisco pounded out 18 hits, while the Cardinals managed just five. Iván Herrera provided the lone highlight for St. Louis with a solo home run and an RBI. Starter Michael McGreevy struggled, giving up six runs over four innings to take the loss. The Cardinals will look to bounce back tonight as the series continues. Andre Pallante will get the start.
KANSAS CITY, MO – The Royals edged out a tight 2–1 win over the Twins last night at Kauffman Stadium. Maikel García delivered the game’s only big swing with a two-run homer, providing all the offense Kansas City needed. On the mound, Michael Wacha turned in 5⅔ effective innings to earn the win. The relief corps held fast to preserve the slim lead. With the win, the Royals improved their record and tightened their grip on the AL Wild Card race. Stephen Kolek will get the start for the Royals tonight.
