A man is dead following a home invasion in Cherokee Village late Wednesday night. According to Cherokee Village Police Chief Monte Lane, officers were called to a home on Katta Drive on September 10 after reports of a shooting. Police say the intruder entered the home through a sliding door. The elderly homeowner, believing his wife had returned from church, went to check and instead heard a man’s voice. The homeowner retrieved a handgun from his bedroom and backed into a corner of the home. Police say he told the intruder to “stop,” but when the suspect moved toward him, the homeowner fired several shots, killing the man. The intruder’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for identification. No arrests have been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing with assistance from the Sharp County Sheriff’s Office and the Arkansas State Police.
