Authorities have released the name of the man killed in a home invasion Wednesday night. According to Police Chief Monte Lane, 36-year-old Samuel West broke through the back sliding glass door of a home on Katta Drive. The elderly homeowner, thinking it was his wife returning from church, soon realized it was an intruder. After shouting at West to stop, the homeowner fired multiple shots when West advanced toward him, killing him. West had been released from the Sharp County Detention Center just hours earlier after being jailed for violating a no-contact order involving his estranged wife. Court records show he had a long criminal history dating back to 2009. Chief Lane said the case appears to be self-defense, and no arrests are expected. West’s body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for examination.
