
A Thayer man is facing multiple charges after a fatal crash that happened on December 1, 2024. According to court documents, 55-year-old Robert Marvin Powell is charged with first-degree involuntary manslaughter, DWI resulting in death, failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, and a second offense of operating a vehicle without insurance. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says Powell was driving on Missouri 142 in Oregon County when he crossed the center line, hitting several signs before overturning and coming to rest on the opposite side of the road. A passenger in the vehicle died from injuries sustained in the crash. Investigators say data from the vehicle’s recorder showed Powell was driving about 83 mph at the time. He allegedly smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot, watery eyes, and refused a field sobriety test. Powell’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1.
