Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has announced nearly $10 million in state grants to support public safety initiatives in Blue Shield communities across the state. A total of 201 counties, cities, and towns earned the Governor’s Blue Shield designation by developing comprehensive plans to reduce crime and promote safer communities, making them eligible for funding. Communities that met the Blue Shield requirements by June 1, 2025, were able to apply for $50,000 grants for training, equipment, and technology. In total, 60 counties, 137 cities, and four towns were approved and received grant award notifications this week from the Missouri Department of Public Safety. The Blue Shield Program is part of Governor Kehoe’s Safer Missouri initiative, launched on his first day in office. The General Assembly approved $10 million in the FY 2026 budget for law enforcement support through the program. To retain the designation, communities must submit annual reports to DPS on their public safety efforts. Officials say there will be another opportunity to apply for Blue Shield designation and future grants in 2026.
