A Howell County man faces multiple charges following an incident late Monday night in West Plains. According to the West Plains Police Department, officers were dispatched around 9:48 p.m. on October 21st to a residence after reports of a man looking into windows. Witnesses identified the suspect as Matthew Kester, who fled the scene in a white Chevrolet van before colliding with another vehicle. Investigators say a male victim was visiting a friend when a neighbor alerted them to a man in a black hoodie peering into a bedroom window shared by the woman and her daughter. The victim confronted the suspect and recognized him as the woman’s former boyfriend, identified as Kester. Kester allegedly attempted to flee, prompting the victim to block his path with a gray Ford F-150. Kester then reportedly reversed and drove forward several times, striking the occupied truck with enough force to move it. Officers documented more than $1,000 in damage to the Ford, including to the bumper, hood, and driver’s side panel. Police later located Kester at a nearby convenience store wearing clothing matching witness descriptions. After waiving his Miranda rights, Kester claimed he was there to retrieve a phone charger, despite parking a quarter mile away. He also alleged that the victim pointed a shotgun at him, but later admitted he may have been mistaken due to poor lighting. Officers noted damage to Kester’s van consistent with the reported collisions. He is charged with Property Damage, Assault, and Trespassing.
