Carter County Awarded Grant to Fund New Law Enforcement Positions

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office has been awarded federal funding through the competitive U.S. Department of Justice COPS HIRE Grant program, expanding local law enforcement resources for the next three years. The grant, written by Samantha Majors, will provide funding for two new full-time positions:

  • School Resource Officer (SRO): Assigned to the East Carter School District to support student and staff safety.
  • Drug and Crime Detective: Dedicated to investigating drug-related offenses and major crimes throughout the county.

The total funding amount, including the local match requirement, is $268,000. Sheriff Alonzo Bradwell credited the award to strong teamwork and emphasized the importance of enhancing both school security and criminal investigations. County officials praised the effort to bring additional public safety resources to Carter County.
