A Mansfield woman was filled and an Ava woman seriously injured following a head-on collision Thursday morning in Douglas County. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 7:00 a.m. on November 20, 2025, on Highway 5, nine miles north of Ava. Troopers say a 2021 Kia Forte, driven by a 50-year-old female from Mansfield, was traveling southbound when the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a northbound 2018 Jeep Compass head-on. The driver of the Kia was pronounced deceased at the scene by Douglas County Coroner Rick Miller at 7:21 a.m. Next of kin has been notified. The body was released to Douglas County Coroner and Clinkingbeard Funeral Home in Ava. The driver of the Jeep, a 52-year-old female from Ava, suffered serious injuries and was transported by Cox Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Springfield. Reports indicate she was wearing a safety device at the time of the crash. Both vehicles were totaled and removed by towing services.
