A warrant arrest in West Plains escalated into a physical struggle, resulting in additional charges after a deputy was reportedly assaulted during the encounter. According to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to 4079 State Route K to serve an active arrest warrant for George Roberts. Roberts was observed inside the residence and came to the door after deputies identified themselves. Deputies advised Roberts multiple times of the warrant, which originated from a West Plains Police Department case. Roberts questioned the validity of the warrant and requested to contact his attorney but was told he could do so upon arrival at the jail. When deputies attempted to take Roberts into custody, he allegedly resisted inside the home, causing one deputy to fall backward into the doorway. The struggle then continued outside in the yard, where Roberts reportedly continued to resist and refused to allow deputies to restrain his hands. During the altercation, Roberts allegedly grabbed a deputy’s genital area, causing pain. Deputies stated they eventually delivered knee strikes to Roberts’ torso to gain control and secure him in handcuffs. Roberts was transported to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office for booking on charges of Resisting Arrest and Assault.
