The Izard County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a jury duty scam currently circulating in the area. According to the sheriff’s office, multiple reports have been received from individuals who say they were contacted by callers claiming they missed jury duty and that a warrant had been issued for their arrest. In some cases, the callers demand immediate payment over the phone to “bond out” or instruct the individual to go to a specific location and call back for further instructions. The Izard County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that it does not issue warrants for missed jury duty in this manner and will never call to demand payment, request payment methods over the phone, or direct anyone to make bond payments. Residents who receive a call like this are advised not to provide any personal or financial information, not to send money or make payments, and to hang up immediately. Anyone who believes they have been contacted by a scammer or has already shared information is encouraged to contact the Izard County Sheriff’s Office as soon as possible.
