Possible major step in Chiefs relocation

The Kansas City Chiefs could take a major step toward a possible move across the state line in the coming days. Kansas lawmakers are expected to consider approval of STAR bonds during a Legislative Coordinating Council meeting Monday in Topeka. The bonds could cover up to 70% of the cost of a new stadium project aimed at attracting the Chiefs to Kansas. The Chiefs’ lease at Arrowhead Stadium expires in January 2031. Efforts to keep the team in Missouri stalled last year after Jackson County voters rejected a sales tax extension that would have funded major stadium projects for both the Chiefs and Royals. Momentum has since shifted toward Kansas, with the Chiefs reportedly eyeing a site near The Legends in Kansas City, Kansas. The area already hosts major attractions and offers space for a new stadium and surrounding development. Chiefs Chairman Clark Hunt has previously said he prefers renovating Arrowhead, but an enclosed stadium would allow for expanded revenue opportunities and year-round events. Missouri leaders continue working to keep the team in the state, while Kansas officials push forward with incentive plans. No final decision has been announced.

The Kansas City Chiefs are back on the road this Sunday as they travel to Tennessee to face the Titans. Kickoff is scheduled for noon, with pregame coverage getting underway at 11 a.m. on K-Kountry 95.
