A routine traffic stop early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of a West Plains woman on a drug possession charge. According to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 1:18 a.m. on December 31, 2025, when Deputy Tyler Ryan stopped a white Buick LaSabre traveling west on State Route 14. The deputy reported observing the vehicle cross the center line twice and the fog line once prior to initiating the stop. During the stop, the driver and a passenger, identified as Jazmine Baker of West Plains, were contacted. Deputies said the driver consented to a search of his person and the vehicle. Baker was asked to exit the vehicle and gave permission for deputies to search a purse located on the passenger-side floorboard, which she identified as hers. Inside the purse, deputies reportedly found a clear plastic baggie containing a white crystallized substance, along with an orange pill bottle with similar residue. Both items field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Baker and the driver were detained while the vehicle was further searched, though no additional contraband was located. Deputies advised Baker of her Miranda rights, and she reportedly confirmed the purse belonged to her and that the methamphetamine was hers. During a later interview at the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, Baker also admitted to consuming methamphetamine by ingestion. A TruNarc Analyzer test later confirmed the substance as methamphetamine. Based on the investigation, deputies determined there was probable cause to arrest Baker on suspicion of Possession of a Controlled Substance.
