A Marion County man is facing serious felony charges following an alleged knife attack and attempted arson during a domestic dispute. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Christopher Robert Collier was arrested January 11 after a woman reported he stabbed her with a knife and attempted to set her on fire at a residence on State Highway 14. Investigators say the victim told deputies an argument inside a camping trailer escalated when Collier allegedly tried to stab her in the neck. She blocked the attack with her arm and suffered a deep cut to her left forearm. The woman reported Collier then poured gasoline on her and attempted to ignite it with a lighter, but was unsuccessful. She was able to escape and seek help. The victim was treated at a local hospital and required 11 staples to close the wound. Court records state her clothing had an odor consistent with gasoline. Deputies later executed a search warrant at the residence and recovered a gas can, lighter, knife, and other evidence investigators say supported the victim’s account. Collier has been charged with First-Degree Domestic Battery and Criminal Attempt to Commit Second-Degree Murder, both Class B felonies. Bond has been set at $250,000.
