Missouri’s 2025–2026 deer-hunting season has come to a close, and preliminary numbers show hunters topped the 300,000 mark statewide. The Missouri Department of Conservation reports a total harvest of 301,954 deer for the season. That total includes 145,222 antlered bucks, 25,129 button bucks, and 131,603 does. Howell County ranked among the top counties in Missouri with 5,490 deer harvested. Franklin County led the state with 6,770, followed by Callaway County with 5,346. Last season, hunters checked 275,656 deer across Missouri. The archery portion of the season accounted for 62,203 deer, up from 56,516 the year before. The top archery harvest counties were Jefferson with 1,571, Franklin with 1,272, and St. Louis with 1,076. MDC Cervid Program Supervisor Jason Isabelle said the season was a success, noting the total harvest was slightly above the five-year average and marks the sixth time Missouri hunters have surpassed 300,000 deer in a season. The Conservation Department also reported four non-fatal, self-inflicted firearms-related hunting incidents statewide, with only one directly involving deer hunting. Final harvest totals will be released once all data has been fully reviewed.
