The West Plains R-VII School District has announced the hiring of two assistant principals for the 2026–2027 school year. Melissa Rutledge and Katie Jones will officially step into their new roles at West Plains Elementary beginning July 1. Rutledge currently serves as the district’s Secondary Instructional Coach, a position she has held for the past two years. Prior to that, she served as an Assistant Middle School Principal, Instructional Coach, Title I Teacher, Reading Specialist, and First Grade Teacher. Rutledge spent 24 years with the Mountain View–Birch Tree School District, gaining experience across multiple grade levels and instructional settings. Jones is currently a Third Grade Teacher at West Plains Elementary and is in her fourth year with the district. Before joining West Plains, she spent five years at East Newton, where she served as a Preschool Teacher and Fourth Grade Teacher. District officials say both educators bring strong instructional leadership experience, classroom expertise, and a commitment to student success as they transition into their new roles. The appointments take effect July 1 ahead of the 2026–2027 school year.
