On Wednesday night at approximately 7:50, Douglas County Deputies attempted a felony warrant arrest on 53-year-old Edward Bowman.

Upon knocking on the door and announcing their presence, Bowman came to a sliding glass door, partially opened a curtain, and looked out. Bowman refused to come out when asked by Deputies and advised that he had a warrant for his arrest. Bowman then disappeared inside the residence.

Deputies positioned their vehicle in a manner to provide cover and concealment. Bowman went to a bedroom window where he pointed a spotlight and a firearm at Sgt. Aaron Box. Sgt. Box could not see due to the blinding light; however, Deputy Pueppke was at an angle to the suspect and observed the firearm pointed at Deputy Box. Deputy Pueppke fired his duty weapon into the window at Bowman, causing him to lower the weapon and retreat.

Bowman contacted the Douglas County Sheriff’s Dispatch, where he stated he was shot in the leg. It was later determined that Bowman was not shot and was only trying to get law enforcement to enter the residence to be ambushed.

Multiple agencies were responding to the incident with night vision, armored vehicles, K-9’s, and Drones. Those agencies that responded were the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, Stone County Sheriff’s Office, Taney County Sheriff’s Office, Howell County Sheriff’s Office, COMET Drug Task Force, MSHP, and Ava Police Department.

Sheriff Degase was able to make contact with Bowman via telephone, where Bowman insisted that he was shot and could not move. Sheriff Degase advised Bowman that neither he nor law enforcement was coming into the house. Sheriff Degase advised Bowman of his three options: the first being to drag himself to the door unarmed and surrender, the second being that tear gas would be deployed into the house, and if the second option did not work, an armored vehicle would be driven through his house to take him into custody. Shortly thereafter, Bowman dragged himself to the door, where he was taken into custody, and it was determined he was not shot.

A search warrant was applied for and obtained for the Bowman residence, where evidence was seized, including a spotlight that was still on and a loaded 9mm handgun lying on the bed next to the window he pointed the firearm out of.

A warrant was issued for Edward Bowman for 3 counts of 1st Degree Assault on Law Enforcement, 3 Counts of Armed Criminal Action, and 1 count of resisting arrest.

A second subject was arrested for interfering with the arrest, and information will be released upon formal charges.
