The West Plains R-VII School District Board of Education will officially welcome Abigail Freidt, a student at West Plains High School, as the 2026–2027 student board representative during its August 2026 board meeting. Freidt was selected for the role at the April 2026 board meeting following a competitive application and interview process.
The student representative position, now entering its third year, provides an important opportunity for student voice and leadership within the district. The 2025–2026 representative, current senior McKrae Brewer, currently serves in the role.
In this non-voting, advisory capacity, Freidt will act as a liaison between the student body and the Board of Education. She will share insights, provide updates, and help ensure student perspectives are included in district discussions and decision-making. Additionally, she will present monthly reports on school activities and events and meet regularly with Superintendent Dr. Davis to discuss ideas aimed at strengthening connections between students and district leadership.
“Abigail Freidt exemplifies so many Zizzer qualities that have made her an outstanding Student Council officer, student, and friend to her peers,” said Kirsten Peterson, Student Council Advisor. “Her drive to make a difference and better the school for all students and staff is just one of the many attributes that makes her an excellent choice for Student Board Member.”
West Plains High School Principal Ryan Smith also shared his support. “Abigail truly embodies the spirit of a Zizzer,” Smith said. “I am excited to witness her journey next school year as she takes on this important role, and I am confident in her ability to represent the student body with passion and commitment.”
Freidt is actively involved in Student Council, BETA Club, World Culture Club, National Honors Society, PLTW Biomed, Concert Choir, and Swing Set. She is also a member of the Lady Zizzer tennis team and serves on the Junior Prom Committee.
Freidt earned the position through a rigorous selection process that included an application, two rounds of interviews, and letters of recommendation. Her term as student representative will begin in August 2026.
