Willow Springs Elementary School is proud to recognize fifth grade student Abigail Novykova for receiving the prestigious Lieutenant Governor’s Award for American Patriotism.
Abigail recently participated in a statewide contest in which English Learner students were asked to write letters to the lieutenant governor’s office explaining why they are proud to be Americans. Her letter was selected as one of the Top Ten entries in Missouri.
As part of this honor, Abigail will attend an awards ceremony at the Missouri State Capitol where she will meet Missouri Lieutenant Governor David Wasinger and officially receive the award.
Ten year old Abigail’s appreciation for the freedoms enjoyed in the United States is deeply rooted in her Ukrainian culture, history, and family values that have been passed down through generations. Those experiences and traditions continue to inspire her writing, goals, and dreams for the future.
Abigail hopes to one day become a judge, build a loving family, and always care for her mother. She enjoys spending time with family, painting, playing soccer, and embracing opportunities to learn and grow.
Willow Springs Elementary would also like to recognize ELL teacher Shelly Rickard for supporting and encouraging students through opportunities like this.
