The fire was on Pine Flat Lane in Eunice. Authorities say that the remains of James Goodchild were found in the fire. Fire departments were called to the fire around 9 Friday night. Two children and their grandmother were safely rescued from the fire, but they told authorities that Goodchild was still in the home. A 14-year-old girl allegedly got her brother and grandmother out of the house and called 9-1-1. Authorities say the fire started near a wood stove. Several agencies were involved in fighting the fire and recovering Goodchild’s body, including the Raymondville Fire Department, the Summersville Volunteer Fire Department, Mercy EMS, Texas County Memorial Hospital EMS, the Texas County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas County coroner, and the Missouri Fire Marshal.
