
Consumer groups are claiming big grocery retailers such as Kroger and Walmart have been unfairly raising prices, both while the pandemic was happening and even now. The allegation of corporate greed comes after a new report from the Federal Trade Commission found profits for grocery chains jumped sharply at rates that supply-chain disruptions could not justify. The report found that retailer profits rose to 6 percent over total costs in 2021, and 7 percent in the first three quarters of 2023 – compared with 5-point-6 percent in 2015. Arkansas households’ weekly grocery costs about two-hundred-sixty dollars, which is below the national average of two-hundred seventy dollars, according to a Help Advisor report.
