Over the last several days the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has responded to a residence in the Squires area after receiving calls that the homeowners are seeing people trespassing on their property and they had pictures to prove it. Each times Deputies responded; they were shown pictures by the landowners but there was no one in the pictures.
On June 6, 2024 at approximately 1800 hours, Cpl. Nelson responded to the same residence in Squires where Ronald Jenkins and Melanie Springer reside. Ronald Jenkins had called the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and stated there were people on their property holding guns. Upon the arrival of Cpl. Nelson, Jenkins told him there was someone under the deck looking at them. Cpl. Nelson looked under the deck and noted there was no one there. Ronald advised his wife was in the barn with a person and a drone.
Upon arriving at the barn, the two subjects advise Cpl. Nelson someone was hiding under the tarp in the barn, which Cpl. Nelson once again found no one.
Deputy Sam Evans and Deputy Joe Dering arrived on scene to assist. Due to the hallucinations and actions by Springer and Jenkins it was obvious they were under the influence of a controlled substance. When Jenkins was asked, he advised there was methamphetamine in the residence and granted permission to search, where methamphetamine, a rifle and a pistol were located and seized.
Both Springer and Jenkins were arrested and transported to the Douglas County Jail where they were booked on a 24-hour hold. A warrant was issued for both Springer and Jenkins for Possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine and 2 counts of Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing methamphetamine. Bond was set at $2500 cash only.
