
The scammers are at it again. The Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from people that scammers are calling people using actual Howell County Deputy names, and telling residents that they have warrants for arrests.
The Sheriff’s Department says.
PLEASE NOTE: Law Enforcement will not call you if you have a warrant, ( If you have a warrant, they will locate you in person and arrest you).
DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE WHO CALLS YOU OVER THE PHONE.
Additionally, law enforcement will not ask for bank wire, credit card, money gram, or bitcoin payments. They will not ask for gift card payments and numbers. Also, Law enforcement will not ask for your personal information over the phone such as bank account information or social security information.
If you get a call like this, just hang up on the caller. Block the number. You may also call the Sheriff’s Office if you would like to verify if a call is a scam or not at 417-256-2544.
Watch out for official looking letters as well. Scammers will try to trick you with mail.
