Chiefs starting RT Jawaan Taylor was carted off the field at Wednesday’s practice with an apparent injury. For a player of Taylor’s importance to suffer an injury on the penultimate day of camp is discouraging, especially considering the slew of health issues the team has dealt with recently.
Taylor is the organization’s third-highest paid player in 2024 with a cap hit north of $24 million. He struggled with penalties last year but fared well overall, particularly in pass protection.
If he has to miss time, Wanya Morris or Lucas Niang stand to fill the role. With respect to both of those players, neither is as accomplished or experienced as Taylor. Baltimore, Kansas City’s Week 1 opponent, led the NFL in sacks in 2023 (60) and still have one of the league’s most dominant defensive lines.
Adam Schefter of ESPN provided an update that the team isn’t “overly concerned at this time” about the injury, relieving news given the initial report.
Even still, that season-opening matchup suddenly becomes much more difficult if Taylor’s injury lingers into the regular season. With matchups against the Bengals, Falcons, and Chargers coming up in succession after the Ravens, Taylor’s health is of the utmost importance.
The Chiefs Second preseason game is this Saturday at home with Detroit. Kickoff is set for 3 pm and pregame begins at 2 pm on K-KOuntry 95
