Around 10 Monday night, a deputy stopped a motorcycle driven by Jack Martin of Willow Springs, for not having a rear taillight. Martin allegedly told police he did not have a license and no insurance. He also told the officer that he had a syringe in his pocket that he had used for meth. The Officer then observed a small clear baggy hanging out from under the seat of the motorcycle. In plain view he was able to observe, what appeared to be, a white crystal-like substance inside the baggy. A multi-drug test kit was completed on the substance found inside the bag with a preliminary positive result for amphetamine. Martin was arrested for possession of a controlled substance 35g or less, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, failure to register a motor vehicle, failure to maintain financial responsibility, and defective equipment. Martin was transported to the police department where he was booked and released with charges pending from the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office.
While securing the evidence at the police department, Officer Barnhouse discovered the suspected methamphetamine weighed approximately 4.5 grams.
