The Arkansas Department of Education has awarded nearly $7 million to 175 public schools through the Arkansas School Recognition Program. Some local schools were included on the list The Salem Elementary School was awarded $90,253.80, The Izard County High School received $14,381.10, The Melbourne High School gets $41,258.88 and the Melbourne Elementary gets $22,509.32. The Norfork Elementary received $10,362.22. Schools receiving the money are required to establish a committee to determine how to use the funds. Funds must be used for faculty and staff bonuses educational equipment and materials or personnel to assist with improving or maintaining student performance. The committee will include the principal, a teacher and parent representative.
