West Plains, MO – The City of West Plains is excited to announce a significant milestone in its efforts to address the housing shortage caused by the 2017 flooding. In August 2024, the city was awarded $2,620,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to support the construction of new, high-quality housing units. The new construction, dubbed Garner Villas Phase II, is being built next to the Garner Villas Phase I project, a 48-unit development for residents aged 55 and older.
The primary goal of this project is to provide sustainable, energy-efficient, and universally designed housing to meet the needs of the community. Sixteen new two-bedroom units will be constructed as part of the second phase of the Garner Villas development, replacing housing lost in the devastating 2017 floods. This project underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing the well-being of its residents by focusing on sustainability, accessibility, and aesthetic harmony with the surrounding environment.
“We are thrilled to move forward with the next phase of Garner Villas,” said West Plains Mayor Mike Topliff. “These funds will help us address a critical need for housing in our community, especially in light of the continued recovery efforts from the 2017 floods.”
To celebrate this major achievement, CDBG Program Manager Brandon Jenson will visit West Plains to officially announce the $2,620,000 award for the second phase of the Garner Villas development.
