Mammoth Spring Bears & Lady Bears both lost close games on Monday

The Mammoth Spring Bears and Lady Bears both opened their 2024-25 Basketball seasons on Monday in the Bobby D. Hulse Memorial Classic at Norfork High School.

Both games came down to the wire.

In the Girl’s game the Lady Bears battled back from an early 14-point deficit to tie the game at 47 with under a minute to play, but Norfork scored the final 4 points to win it 51-47. The Game was a shootout between The Lady Bears Molly Corbett and the Lady Panthers Maggie Tyrone. Tyrone finished with 35 points and Corbett finished with 32 points. The only other player in Double figures was the Lady Bears Bethany Robbins with 10.

The Boys game was also a close one with the Bears leading early by as many as 13 points. The Panther came back late and got a 3-point victory 59-56. Gavin Vandiver led the Bears with 22 points, Braxton Sneed added 13 points and Caleb Michaels had 11 points. The Panthers were led by Korbin Blanchard and Cobey McClellan with 18 points each. Blanchard scored 12 of his 18 in the fourth quarter and McClellan scored all of his points on three-point shots, hitting six of them.
