In Douglas County on Monday Firefighters were called to N Highway Monday morning, the air was filled with smoke making visibility limited and the road was blocked off. Several homes along N Highway were in danger but crews managed to keep the flames away. Authorities believe the fire started with a controlled burn. Nearly 100 acres have burned as a result of the fire.
Friday, In Ripley County a wildfire was reported in the northwestern part of the county near Gatewood on Highway J and Highway 160. About 40 acres were destroyed by the fire and at least one building. The U.S. Forest Service reports that a total of 21 fires were reported in the forest of Friday and Saturday.
