A longtime City of Thayer official and businessman, Lawrence Porter has passed away. The Thayer City offices will be closed for his funeral services on Wednesday. The funeral is at 2pm. Mr. Porter served as an alderman in Thayer in the 1960s and had businesses in Thayer for 70 years. Mr. Porter was committed to seeing the city grow and prosper by building several business locations and was known for helping others with his time and resources such as donating the flag pole that sits by the Police Department and building the new Head Start building.
