The Marion County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest of a man for attempted murder. 75-year-old Jimmy Jones was arrested on charges of criminal attempt to commit first-degree murder, felony second-degree discharging a firearm from a vehicle, and felony possession of a firearm by certain persons. Tuesday, Jones was parked in the roadway on County Road 8042 when a woman stopped to check on him. The woman said she asked Jones if he was okay, and Jones responded by pointing a handgun at her, prompting her to drive away from the scene. The victim stated she heard at least two (2) gunshots as she drove away, and stated Jones got in his vehicle and followed her for a short distance before turning onto another road. Deputies responded and processed the scene of the initial incident and then responded to a call of a vehicle crash near MC 3530. Deputies found a vehicle belonging to Jones and recovered a firearm from the vehicle, but were unable to locate him. The victim was able to identify Jones as the person who fired at her, as well as the vehicle Jones had been driving. Jones was arrested on Thursday and booked into the Marion County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
