Missouri head football coach Eli Drinkwitz has signed his second contract extension in less than two years, keeping him with the Tigers through the 2029 season. The extension, announced Thursday, adds to Drinkwitz’s previous deal signed in December 2023, which was worth $46 million. The new agreement also increases the salary pool for his assistants. It includes performance incentives, such as $250,000 for a first-round College Football Playoff appearance and $750,000 for a national championship win. Drinkwitz was named SEC Coach of the Year 2 years ago and led Mizzou to an 11-2 record and Cotton Bowl victory last season. The Tigers have posted back-to-back double-digit win seasons for the first time in a decade. Drinkwitz, who took over the program in 2020 after coaching at Appalachian State, holds a 38-24 record at Mizzou, the most wins by a Tigers coach in their first five seasons. He has coached 17 NFL draft picks, including Armand Mebane, who was selected seventh overall by the New York Jets in April. The Tigers open their season on August 28th against Central Arkansas. They’ll face tough challenges after losing key players like Mebane and wide receiver Luther Burden III, but return quarterback Brady Cook. Missouri’s first six games are at home, including matchups with Kansas, South Carolina, and Alabama. The university is also in the midst of a $250 million renovation of Faurot Field, expected to be completed next year.
