Highland Rebels debut new cooler turf ahead of football season

As the Highland Rebels prepare for the upcoming football season, athletes are hitting the field with a major upgrade beneath their cleats, a new type of synthetic turf designed to stay cooler than traditional field surfaces. The newly installed turf, called Pivot Turf, is part of the district’s effort to improve safety and comfort for student-athletes during the hot summer months. Traditional synthetic turf often features a rubber infill, which absorbs and retains heat, resulting in surface temperatures that are significantly hotter than the surrounding air. But according to Head Football Coach Sterling Stowers, Pivot Turf brings a refreshing change. Coach Stowers explained, “There are microbeads instead of typical rubber infill, causing it to be, on average, 25 to 30 degrees cooler than normal turf. The field upgrade is part of a broader push by the school district to invest in improved athletic facilities and provide student-athletes with a safer, more modern playing environment.
