Cardinals and Royals both take losses on Friday

project-14

The Kansas City Royals fell to the Philadelphia Phillies last night with a final score of 8-2. Kansas City jumped out to a quick lead in the top of the first inning, but the Phillies answered right back and never looked back. Philadelphia took control in the third and fourth innings, putting up three runs in the third and two more in the fourth to pull ahead 6-1. The Royals managed to push across another run in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Phillies’ strong offensive showing. Kansas City recorded seven hits on the night but couldn’t string them together to generate runs, while Philadelphia tallied 14 hits to secure the win. The Royals now sit at an even 74-74 on the season as they look to bounce back in tonight’s game back in Philadelphia, Ryan Bergert will be their starting pitcher.

St. Louis fell 8–2 to Milwaukee after the Brewers broke it open with a four-run third and tacked on insurance in the fourth, seventh, and eighth. The Cardinals finally broke through with two in the sixth, but nine hits turned into just two runs as Milwaukee kept stranding threats and played clean defense. Two St. Louis errors didn’t help, and the Brewers finished with 11 hits on the night. A tough one for the Cards—a big inning by Milwaukee set the tone, and St. Louis couldn’t cash in enough baserunners to climb back. The Cardinals will return for vengeance tonight in Milwaukee, the game is scheduled to begin at 7:45, Sonny Gray will be up to pitch first.
