The Cave City School District is moving forward with plans for a new elementary school, with the project estimated to cost between $25 and $27 million. Superintendent Steven Green announced at a Chamber of Commerce event Wednesday that the district has been approved for a $12.75 million Partnership Grant to help fund the 72,000-square-foot K–5 facility, which would be built behind the high school gym. The district has $6.1 million in savings but still needs to raise an additional $7.4 million. Voters will decide the issue in a special election on November 18. Officials say there will be no millage increase, only an extension of the current 39.0 rate, which remains below the state average. Green emphasized that the state grant will be forfeited if the extension is rejected. The new building would feature a secure single-entry system, video surveillance, a safe room, and updated infrastructure. Green also highlighted Cave City’s strong academic performance, noting the district ranks 19th out of 250 districts statewide, the highest in North Central Arkansas.
