A routine traffic stop in Howell County resulted in the arrest of a man on felony drug trafficking charges late Tuesday night. According to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Tyler Ryan stopped a gray Pontiac G6 traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 63 near Pomona around 11:39 p.m. on October 14 for displaying expired license plates. The driver was identified as Courtney Morgan, 28, and the passenger as Dustin Collins, 34. Deputies discovered Collins was currently on probation or parole. During the stop, Deputy Ryan noticed a plastic bag partially visible inside Collins’ shoe. When questioned, Collins attempted to hide the item. A consent search revealed four clear plastic baggies containing a white crystalline substance and a black digital scale with residue. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine. A further search of the vehicle uncovered additional empty baggies inside a black bag on the passenger-side floorboard. Collins was arrested and transported to the Howell County Sheriff’s Office. The methamphetamine, weighing approximately 86.2 grams, was submitted to the Missouri State Highway Patrol Crime Laboratory for confirmatory testing. Dustin Levi Collins has been charged with Trafficking Drugs in the Second Degree, a Class C felony, and was released on $10,000 bond.
