Inmate identified who died in Greene County custody

Authorities have identified the inmate who died while in custody at the Greene County Detention Center late Thursday night. According to Arkansas State Police, the deceased has been identified as 32-year-old Jacob Smith, who was being held in connection with a double homicide out of Fulton County. Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder said in a Friday news release that jail staff discovered an unresponsive inmate inside a cell at approximately 11:52 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, with a towel around the inmate’s neck. Emergency personnel transported Smith to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Arkansas State Police have opened an investigation into the in-custody death. The ASP spokesperson stated that no additional details are available at this time, including whether Smith’s body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for autopsy.
