The Bobcat community is mourning the loss of a legend

Coach David Meek passed away Wednesday afternoon at the age of 94, leaving behind a legacy that spans generations of athletes, families, and Friday nights under the lights. Coach Meek first led the Bobcats from 1953–1956, returned as head coach from 1983–1998, and later continued shaping young athletes as an assistant coach  from Osceola (2001–2011), to Melbourne (beginning in 2012), and back home to Thayer from 2016–2021. His storied career included guiding the 1990 Bobcats to a 10–1 season, earning Missouri High School Coach of the Year, and being inducted into the Missouri High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1999. But Coach Meek’s impact reached far beyond records and recognition. He instilled toughness, discipline, humility, and pride in wearing Kelly Green. Former players say the lessons he taught on and off the field continue to shape their lives today. Coach Meek wasn’t just a coach; he was a builder of men, a mentor, and a cornerstone of Thayer Bobcat Football. His influence will continue to live on in every athlete who suits up, every cheer from the stands, and every young person he pushed to be better than they were the day before. The community is asked to keep the Meek family and all who loved him in their prayers during this time. Rest easy, Coach. You will be missed, but never forgotten.
