Driver faces multiple felony charges in Howell County fatal crash

Local law enforcement agencies are investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred early Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 63, about 1.5 miles south of Pomona. Authorities say just before 3:30 a.m., reports were received of a wrong-way driver in the area. Minutes later, a collision was reported in the northbound lanes of U.S. 63. Officers with the West Plains Police Department were the first to arrive on scene and located two vehicles involved in the crash. One occupant, a 48-year-old man from West Plains, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to officials, the second vehicle was found abandoned, and the driver had fled the scene on foot. Deputies with the Howell County Sheriff’s Department and troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to assist. After a search of the area, authorities located the fleeing driver and took him into custody. Court records indicate the driver, identified as 40-year-old Jason Morgan of Marionville, faces multiple felony charges, including leaving the scene of an accident, driving while intoxicated resulting in death, along with several misdemeanor charges.
