MDC could change CWD regulations

The Missouri Department of Conservation is proposing changes to its chronic wasting disease (CWD) regulations for deer hunters, citing low CWD detection rates and continued healthy deer populations across the state. Under the proposed changes, MDC would eliminate antler point restrictions, remove designated CWD management zones, and discontinue the CWD portion of the firearms deer season. Instead, the department plans to continue mandatory CWD testing while listing counties where the disease has been detected in seasonal regulations and informational booklets. A public comment period on the proposed changes opens Friday and will run through Valentine’s Day. Following the comment period, the Missouri Conservation Commission will review the proposals for final approval. If approved, the updated regulations would take effect at the end of June.
