The Kansas City Chiefs have officially announced the return of Eric Bieniemy as the team’s offensive coordinator. The team confirmed the move Friday morning, marking Bieniemy’s return to the organization after three seasons away. Bieniemy previously served as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2022 and was part of the Kansas City coaching staff from 2013 through 2022, spending his first five seasons with the team as running backs coach. During his time away from Kansas City, Bieniemy served as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders and the UCLA Bruins, and most recently worked as running backs coach for the Chicago Bears. During the 2025 season, Chicago ranked third in the NFL in rushing yards per game. Earlier Friday, the Kansas City Chiefs also announced they have parted ways with former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy. Nagy has reportedly interviewed with multiple NFL teams for head coaching and offensive coordinator opportunities. Bieniemy’s return brings a familiar presence back to Kansas City as the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season.
