
44-year-old John Payne, who is a registered sex offender, was wanted for assault in Missouri and ran from Police in Clay County, with the pursuit reaching speeds of up to 100 MPH. A deputy made contact with the left fender of the vehicle that Payne was driving, causing it to spin out of control and stall. Payne was arrested, and a 7-month-old child was found in a car seat in the vehicle, and the child’s mother was also in the vehicle. Payne had a warrant for third-degree assault in Ripley County and is also a sex offender, and according to reports, was out of compliance on his probation. Payne was transported to the Clay County Detention Center and booked in on felony charges of fleeing and first-degree child endangerment. He is also charged with fictitious tags, no liability insurance and reckless driving.
