The Douglas County Sheriff’s Department is reporting the arrest of a man from Ava. 48 year old Michael Shane Smith was arrested after he fled from an officer who attempted to stop him after noticing a tail light out. Smith led the officer down a hunting trail before hitting a small tree, he then left the vehicle on foot and went down a steep incline where the officer caught him and arrested him. Smith was put on a 24 hold and a warrant was issued for 2 counts of unlawful possession of a firearm . Bond was set at $15,000.
