A man from Independence County has been sentenced to 28 years in prison on murder charges. 33 year old John Goodman of Newark pleaded guilty to the shooting death of 27 year old Steven Reed of Newport in July of 2018. According to the report, Goodman was in a relationship with a woman and after they broke up she became involved with Reed. Goodman pleaded guilty to second degree murder. He will receive credit for the 247 days he has served.
